Dear NYPD

“Just doing my job.”  The Nuremberg trials have shown that it isn’t a valid legal defense.  A crazed poorly trained guard dog is “just doing it’s job” when it bites a random passerby.  And, according to the law, society is doing it’s job when it euthanizes that rabid, out of control animal.

Just a thought.

Gruesome new attack by Colombian government -- demolishing homes Israeli-style

As an academic, it is interesting to note that “Israel Style” has come to mean in blatant violation of human dignity and rights.  Um.  Good job Israel.

But seriously, this adaptation of a scorched earth policy in Colombia is important.

Colombian troops have been given the order to destroy houses used by rebels to attack civilians or government, President Juan Manual Santos says.

“We’ve taken the decision that from now on, security personnel will destroy any house being used by terrorists to attack government forces or civilians. No more using houses to shoot at security forces or at civilians,” Mr Santos said, after holding a security meeting.
